Privacy Policy
Last updated 20 August 2026Pocket Pointer has no account, no server that holds your data, and no analytics. This page explains what that means in detail, and names the only two requests either app makes to the internet.
What is collected
Nothing. The developer of Pocket Pointer receives no personal information from either app.
There is no sign-in, no profile, and no account to create. The apps contain no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking software of any kind, and no third-party SDKs that could collect on someone else's behalf. Nothing is sold or shared, because nothing is gathered in the first place.
What stays on your devices
Pocket Pointer stores a small amount of information locally so it works the way you left it. None of it leaves your iPhone or your Mac except over the direct, encrypted link between them.
- Pairing credentials. When you pair an iPhone with a Mac, each device saves a shared secret in its own Keychain so the two recognize each other next time. Removing a trusted device from the Mac's menu, or deleting the app, removes it.
- Your settings. Pointer speed, natural scrolling, haptics, and auto-reconnect are kept in the app's own preferences on the device.
- Nothing you type or point at. Pointer movement and keystrokes exist only to be delivered to the Mac you are driving. They are not written to a file, not kept after the session, and never transmitted anywhere but that Mac.
What travels over your network
While the apps are looking for each other, the iPhone and the Mac advertise themselves on your local network so each can offer the other as something to connect to. That advertisement carries the device's model name — "iPhone 17 Pro", or the name your Mac already broadcasts — so you can tell which device you are pairing with. The iPhone does not send the name you gave it.
Once paired, a session is encrypted with AES-128-GCM, keyed by the credential in each device's Keychain, and runs directly between the two devices over your Wi-Fi or a direct link between them. It does not pass through any server, and there is no relay or cloud service in the path. Pairing is confirmed by a six-digit code shown on the Mac and typed on the iPhone, so a device you did not approve cannot connect.
The two requests to the internet
Neither app talks to a server the developer runs for the purpose of collecting anything. Two ordinary update checks do reach the internet:
- The iPhone app checks the App Store for a newer version, at most once a day, by asking Apple's public lookup service (itunes.apple.com) about its own app identifier. The request carries no information about you or your devices. As with any web request, Apple's servers see the network address it came from; what Apple does with that is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.
- The Mac helper checks for a newer version by fetching an update feed from pocketpointer.vercel.app. It sends no profile of your system along with that request. Updates are verified against a signing key built into the app, so only builds from the developer can be offered.
This website is hosted by Vercel, which keeps ordinary server logs of requests, including network addresses, as any web host does.
Permissions the apps ask for
- Local Network on iPhone, so the app can find your Mac. Without it, discovery finds nothing.
- Accessibility on Mac, which is what allows the helper to move the pointer and type on your behalf. This is the mechanism macOS provides for exactly this purpose; the helper uses it for nothing else.
Both are granted by you and can be withdrawn at any time in System Settings on the Mac, or in Settings → Privacy & Security on the iPhone.
Children
Pocket Pointer is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Material changes to what the apps do will arrive with an app update, not quietly.
